Isabella the First ruled over the Kingdom of Castile from 1474 to 1504. With the sponsorship of Queen Isabella, Christopher Columbus led three ships westward and discovered the New World in the Americas. During his second voyage, he discovered the island of Cuba and found locals smoking rolled-up leaves. He brought these leaves back to Europe, officially beginning the spread of cigars worldwide.
